Portuguese is a Romantic language and is the native language of over 140 million people. It is the official language in eight countries: Portugal, Brasil, Angola, Mozambique, Guinea-Bissau, Cape Verde, São Tomé, Príncipe and East Timor.

Courses during the semester
You can choose Portuguese courses from level A1 to C1 following the CEFR. There are also special language course offers, such as Portuguese for Spanish speakers and tandem Portuguese-German and Portuguese-Spanish conversation courses. Classes are offered in face-to-face, online and hybrid formats.
Registration
- Students register in TUMonline.
- You can follow our instructions for registration and, if necessary, determine your course level by taking our placement test (only for certain languages).
- TUM employees can register by sending an e-mail to the respective lecturer.

Cooperation with Camões, Instituto da Cooperação e da Língua, Portugal
The TUM Language Center and the Portuguese Instituto Camões are working closely together in the field of Portuguese. A corresponding cooperation agreement was signed in January 2020. Within the framework of this cooperation, the Instituto Camões will finance teaching through language courses and advanced training over the next three years, and support special offers of the TUM Language Center, such as the film series "DIVERSITY" and the Global Minds Portugal event, which took place for the first time in January 2021.

Cooperation with the Brazilian partner university UNESP
Through the strategic partnership between the Portuguese department of the TUM Language Center and the German and Spanish departments of the Universidade Estadual Paulista (UNESP São Paulo), the TUMtandem Portuguese-German and Portuguese-Spanish online program has been implemented since the beginning of 2020.
This collaboration enables students from both universities to participate in bilingual hybrid and/or online courses (Portuguese-German and Portuguese-Spanish).
Partnership with the Portuguese University of Lisbon
A Cooperation has also been established and intensified with the University of Lisbon: Since the winter semester 2021/22, TUM students and CLi-FLUL students have been able to attend in online tandems either for Portuguese-German or Portuguese-Spanish.
Since then, hybrid and/or online lectures have been held regularly, in which students from both universities can participate and discuss various topics.
