Do you need English for your work at TUM, you are looking for advice on publications, or you would like to take part in an Erasmus+ employee mobility program to an English-speaking country?
We would be happy to support you in your project with our extensive range of English Courses for Staff (for all TUM employees) or our English Coaching Program (for professors, doctoral candidates and postdocs).
You can also register for all regular student courses (registration and exam information).
Courses
These courses provide the required qualification for Erasmus+ Staff Mobility in English-speaking countries/programs, but can also be attended as in-house training. The TUM Language Center issues a certificate for all participants at the end of the course.
Level – Intermediate/Advanced: This course is designed for employees in need of regular practice with the English Language. Topics will be selected each week by the instructor and include current events, trends in the English language, and topics in science and technology.

English Coaching Program
The English Coaching Program is free of charge and specifically supports TUM professors, employees, doctoral candidates and postdocs looking to improve their English skills, including One-to-One Coaching, Small Group Coaching and Interactive Editing. In the semester break (March and September), we offer group seminars over a few days on topics relevant to scientific and academic work in English.
Interactive editing is a collaborative, iterative approach to revising texts. Our aim is to help you become a more autonomous writer as we work together to improve your texts (not a drop-off editing service). The service is free to all TUM professors, post-docs, and other staff, as well as doctoral candidates.
We help you identify and correct systematic errors. We will also suggest, if desired, changes to style, layout, structure and argumentation. We are happy to look at texts of all formats, styles and genres, as long as they are directly relevant to TUM activities.
Book an appointment:
- For an initial assessment of your requirements, please contact Stephen Starck by e-mail at starck(at)zv.tum.de.
- Then book an appointment via the coaching calendar and we will arrange a meeting point.
Please note:
- In principle, there is no limit on text length, but we cannot guarantee we will be able to review your entire text. We generally work on teaching scripts and texts for publication, but do not edit dissertations.
- Please come to your appointment with the printed text, double-spaced and in a reasonable font size. This makes our work together easier.
- Please bring documents in Word (rather than LaTex or pdf). This will allow for inclusion of tracking changes and comments.
- Please leave sufficient time for interactive editing – book as far in advance as possible.
- Please note that the demand for the coaches is high, and we will not always be able to meet your specific requirements or deadlines.
Coaching Seminars are offered in March and September each year, find details of what is being offered and register for the seminars on our Moodle Coaching Seminars: Registration page. Details will be published in the Moodle in mid-January (for March seminars) and mid-July (for September seminars).
