In summer 2025, a new cooperation between the TUM Language Center and the Institute of Science Tokyo was launched. At its core was a joint program combining a preparatory online course with an intensive practice week in Tokyo.
16 TUM students at A2 language level worked closely with 11 students from the Institute of Science Tokyo. In small groups, they carried out fieldwork in Tokyo and presented their results through videos and short talks.
An engaging supporting program accompanied the project week: in addition to a Japanese crash course, the agenda included a visit to teamLab - a young, creative company made up of artists, engineers, and architects - as well as a joint dinner with TUM alumni. A special highlight was the invitation to a local elementary school, which turned out to be a once-in-a-lifetime experience for the students.
For their participation, the students received a certificate. And the collaboration continues: shortly after the practice week in Japan, two colleagues from the Institute of Science Tokyo traveled to Munich to get to know the Language Center, the Japanese A1.3 intensive course, and the Garching campus.
