English Coaching Program

The English Coaching Program offers tailored support to professors, academic staff and doctoral candidates who use English in their work at TUM. The aim of the program is to help you improve your independent English skills, and it is free of charge.

Since we serve the whole university, we do not and cannot offer extensive editing of texts or more intensive hours on demand. Please be sure to plan your coaching contact in good time for your deadlines.

Contact the coaching coordinator at your campus for more details or make an appointment through our coaching calendar.

One-to-One Coaching

Professors can receive individual coaching to improve their spoken and/or written English. We can also attend your lectures, video-taping them if desired, and offer feedback. Coaching sessions can take place at your department or in a room of the TUM Language Center.

Small Group Coaching

Academic/administrative staff and doctoral candidates can request small group coaching tailored to the group in their own meeting rooms. Depending on the coach's availability, individuals within the group may also book occasional one-to-one appointments for specific projects.

Notes for PhD Candidates

Doctoral candidates are especially encouraged to take advantage of coaching seminars and student courses to improve their writing skills in a structured way. In addition, the English Writing Center provides one-to-one support for writing consultations throughout the year and the TUM Global & Alumni Office's Sprachencafé offers conversation practice on a weekly basis during the teaching semester.

If you are unable to form small groups from within your research area, you are welcome to contact the coaching coordinator for help in finding/ forming a suitable group.

Interactive Editing

Professors and academic/administrative staff can receive support in improving their writing skills using their own texts as a teaching tool.
