English Courses

The Academic English Cluster at TUM offers specialized training in language and communication skills for academic and professional purposes as well as intercultural communication. You can choose from 90 ECTS-granting courses and seminars, most on campus and a few online or blended. Courses are offered during the semester, in intensive blocks in the semester break, or over a weekend.

Gateway to English Master's

Currently enrolled TUM students can meet the English language requirement for one of the many English master's programs at TUM by completing any of the courses included in this module: English for Academic Purposes, English for Environmental Engineering, Controversial Topics in Science and Technology, English for Civil Engineering, and English for Geodesy.

Not only is this a way to meet this requirement, without taking an external language proficiency test, but all Gateway courses will cover the core reading, speaking, writing, and listening skills needed for advanced study in English.

Intensive Courses in Semester Break

The semester break is the perfect time to focus on an area of special interest for a few weeks while practicing your English skills. Are you interested in business ethics? Want to contemplate the finer points of art or the structure of scientific revolutions? We have a course for you, including Thesis Writers' Workshops and Gateway to English Master's courses.

Guided Self-Study using MOOCs

In these modules at the C1 and C2 level, you can work off campus at your own speed to practice English in a massive open online course (MOOC) selected from the thousands of free online courses found on sites such as Coursera, EdX, or Udacity.

Simply find a course you'd like to take and send a link to the self-study program: self-study@zv.tum.de. Once your course has been approved, you will be invited to join our online learning community, where you will get feedback on texts and suggestions for practice exercises to train your language skills.
