English Writing Center

In response to the Coronavirus, the English Writing Center will only be offering appointments via Skype for the foreseeable future.
If you already have an appointment scheduled at an EWC office, please assume it will take place online instead. This means you should email your Skype name and a copy of your text to writing@zv.tum.de at least one day ahead of your appointment. The consultant will contact you via Skype at the appointed time.
If you have an appointment booked but do not want to do it over Skype, please cancel the appointment.
If you do not yet have an appointment but would like to make one, please follow the usual steps, keeping in mind that even appointments listed as 'Munich', 'Garching', or elsewhere will take place over Skype. As stated above, once the appointment is booked, please be sure to send your Skype name and a copy of your text to writing@zv.tum.de at least one hour ahead of your scheduled appointment time.

The English Writing Center offers free one-to-one consulting in English writing to all members of the TUM community.

The Center is staffed by both professional language instructors and student Writing Fellows, all of whom are native (or near-native) English speakers. We help you develop long-term proficiency in English writing, while polishing your actual texts in the process.

Your English Text

Please bring to your appointment up to 5 pages of a text. It might be a section of a thesis or article, an essay or homework assignment, a CV or cover letter, or any other English text.

Our service is to teach you to improve your writing, not to proofread your texts. So please always do your best to implement what you’ve learned in your whole text before making another appointment. That way the lessons build on one another.

Please keep these guidelines in mind

The English Writing Center is staffed only during your scheduled appointments, and our consultants come to work specifically to meet with you. Please respect their time and expertise by honoring these guidelines:

  • You may book one appointment per day, three per week, and twelve per semester
  • You can book appointments up to one month in advance.
  • Cancellations must be made at least 24 hours before your appointment (link in confirmation email).
  • Bring a printed, double-spaced copy of your text to facilitate annotating and teaching.
  • Have a look at our locations (we're not easy to find with Room Finder): MUC - GAR - WZW

NOTE: We do not correct or edit texts for you; rather we work with you to help you improve your written communication skills.
