Information on course participation regulation according to the status of affiliation
Students of all faculties of the University of Technology Munich (TUM)
You are eligible for all courses at the TUM Language Center.
Please note: Several of the language courses offered by The Language Center are reserved for students of a specific field of study, as these courses are funded by the faculty in question.
Exchange students
There are no restrictions to exchange students of the TUM. You can participate in all of the courses.
TUM employees and visiting professors and researchers (applicable for German courses in particular) at TUM
Please note: As the online registration via TUMonline is only possible for those with a TUMonline account all other parties wishing to attend a TUM language course should send an e-mail stating which course(s) they are interested in to the office at the following e-mail address: sprachenzentrum@zv.tum.de.You will then be informed by e-mail before the start of the course whether you have been allocated a place or not.
Alumni of TUM
You are welcome to participate in a number of courses where there are free places available. This is generally the case for the following languages: Arabic, Chinese, Japanese and Russian at intermediate level and above.
Course attendance is free of charge! Nevertheless, we a small donation is always appriciated.
If you are interested in attending a course, please send an e-mail stating the desired course(s) to our secretary at:
sprachenzentrum@zv.tum.de. You will then be informed by e-mail before the start of the course whether you have been allocated a place or not.
All other interest groups (in particular students of other Munich universities)
You can, as an exception to the general rule, attend TUM language courses ONLY if places are available and ONLY if you have been accepted as "Gasthörer" (guest auditor) at TUM. Please direct your request (of course participation) to our office at: sprachenzentrum@zv.tum.de
Please note: There are only places available at higher levels, not at beginners’ level in the following languages: Arabic, Chinese, Japanese and Russian.
Guest student registration takes place exclusively at the office of enrollment, located at Arcisstraße 21 in the Service Desk from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. for the winter and summer semesters in the second week of lectures (cf.Deadlines).
In order to be able to complete the program of study in accordance with the stipulations of the relevant body of examination rules registration carries a charge, with the exception of registration for subjects involving the theory of teaching and methodology for LMU students and for students of other state colleges and/or universities.
The fees for a guest student:
up to 4 hours per week | 100.-- € |
up to 8 hours per week | 200.-- € |
as of 9 hours per week | 300.-- € |
Required Documents
- valid passport or personal identity card
- copy of school-leaving certificate and/or diploma (not required for LMU students)
- confirmation from the competent examination office
As a guest student, however, it is not possible to obtain evidence of academic achievement or to take examinations. Exercises and practical instruction or training in courses of study with restrictive admissions may not be attended. Guest students are not permitted in general in the medical discipline.
